ngena Platform Update 5.1

General

ngena Platform Update 5.1 delivers even more choice for connectivity and enhanced security

It is my honor to share with you that the ngena Platform has released update 5.1. This update brings even more choice to customers and partners as we continue to make the ngena SD-WAN as a Service platform even more flexible and powerful. Let’s take a look at the key updates.

More Choice for Data Center Connectivity

Release 5.1 enables you to select from an expanded choice of data center level connectivity options. To better support data center connectivity, we are pleased to introduce two new Cisco routers to the ngena platform: Cisco ASR 1001-X and Cisco ASR 1001-HX.

The Cisco ASR 1001-X Router is a 1-rack-unit (1RU) platform targeted towards the low to medium Enterprise and Managed Service Provider use cases. Its compact form factor has a built-in Route Processor, Embedded Services Processor (ESP) and Shared Port Adapter (SIP) Interface processor.

The Cisco ASR 1001-HX comes in a 1-rack-unit (1RU) form factor and its throughput allows it to sit on the edge of your enterprise data center or large office. With four 10-GE ports, eight 1-GE ports, and four configurable 10-GE and 1-GE ports, this router offers instant-on service capabilities and on-demand crypto capability.

We’ve added these new router choices with Access Design support for L+ & XL+ (EPL & MPLS), L and XL (EPL) and M+ (EPL) sizes.

Whether Ethernet private lines (EPL) or MPLS circuits, these new designs provide even more flexibility for designing a modern SD-WAN solution that includes powerful enterprise class connectivity and hardware.

Enhanced Security at the Edge

5.1 also brings expanded Access Design support for additional CPE devices from the Cisco 1000 series.

Models C1111X-8P and C1161X-8P include rich features like additional memory, making them powerful enough and ideal for supporting enhanced network security services.

In this new age of SASE (Secure Access Service Edge), devices like the C1111/C1161 deliver the horsepower needed to support both SD-WAN and robust security options. Memory and Flash for advanced SD-WAN and Security support. Learn more about ngena SASE here.

Customers and partners can now leverage these models in ngena Access Designs S+ and M+(EPL).

Last but not least, 5.1 also brings Remote Triggered Black Hole, or RTBH, functionality to the ngena platform menu. RTBH filtering is a technique that provides the ability to drop undesirable traffic before it enters a protected network.

With RTBH, NetOps can mitigate threats and stop attacks in their tracks at the edge, protecting critical core infrastructure and saving time and costly headaches associated with intrusions.

Looking ahead, our next release will aim to bring expanded MPLS as an underlay functionality as well as new DNS Routing tools to the ngena platform sometime this summer. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the ever-evolving ngena SD-WAN as a Service platform!

*Note: This release was previously labeled and communicated to partners as update “5.0.1” but has been renamed “5.1” to match our new update numbering convention. Please contact your ngena representative if you have any questions.
